Our 2011 Christmas mantle...just used one 15' strand of fraser fir garland up the sides and across it. Then, after we bought and trimmed the bottom branches off our Christmas tree, I added those to the white urn (Willow House, Royal Street Urn) and then filled in on the mantle for added thickness. We have holly hedges in our backyard, so I collected some holly snipits and added those into the garland for slight touches of color. In one of my previous design jobs, I received the bronze turtledoves as a gift and had never really had a perfect spot to use them until I thought of this idea this year. Our clock is always there and in year's past, I have removed it, however we've missed it during Christmas, so this year I decided to leave it in its place. To balance the other side, I added one of my Villa Stoneware salad plates (also Willow House piece). The stockings are from Pottery Barn. The cordova fireplace screen is another WH piece I earned from my WH business. The fireplace tools, we found by the side of the road and picked them up. Originally they were shiny brass, but Zane sanded them and I spray painted them with black fire-coat spray paint and voila...it all works!
This is my Willow Tree Nativity set, which my husband started for me 2 years ago on my birthday. I didn't have one and I wanted to enjoy one during the Christmas season. For me, because this one is neutral it will fit with any color scheme/decor in my home. It also has a carved effect to each figure which allows me to imagine what each person would've looked like during the time of our Savior's birth. And, as I look at it during Christmas, I can remember that Jesus is the true gift we celebrate and think about what gift(s) I offer Him in return for His love towards me.
As a decor note, this year I added the jute/burlap fabric, since I had some leftover from a wreath I had made and I felt it offered the rustic quality of what the manager/stable might've been like. Underneath the burlap is 2 decorating books to add some height and on top of those I placed a set of white Christmas lights for some glow.
